National Park Service Celebrates 100th Birthday

America’s national parks, all 411 protected areas with 59 parks encompassing 84 million acres, celebrate their 100th birthday August 25, 2016. Celebrations abound this year…this is a great chance for you to introduce family and friends to the outdoors.

America’s first national park – and the world’s – was established with the creation of Yellowstone in 1872. Parkways, monuments, seashores, scenic rivers, urban parks, historic buildings, homes and more encompass America’s current park system.

Famed female athlete Mildred “Babe” Didrikson Zaharias’ legacy is brought back to life with a new children’s book, “BABE CONQUERS THE WORLD: The Legendary Life of Babe Didrikson Zaharias,” written by husband-and-wife team Rich Wallace and Sandra Neil Wallace. In celebration of the new book, Beaumont’s Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum will host a meet and greet with the duo from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 10.
