Gulf Coast

Our Gulf Coast, also known as the Third Coast, is comprised of the states outlining the Gulf of Mexico, including the states of:  Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, located in southern United States.

Gulf Coast events include a variety of festivals, parades, water activities, sports, music concerts, special events, arts, nature and dining activities. On Texas’ Gulf Coast, you will find the Ballunar Liftoff Festival in Clear Lake, Dickens on The Strand in Galveston, Spring Break on South Padre Island, Buccaneer Days in Corpus Christi, the Houston Livestock & Rodeo Show and the list goes on and on.

Louisiana Gulf Coast events include the state’s largest celebration, Mardi Gras in New Orleans every year. In the spring, the one-of-a-kind Iowa Rabbit Festival featuring the crowning of Miss Bunny, along with the Acadian Memorial Festival celebrating the Acadian way of life.  A quote from Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne:  “If it walks, crawls, swims or flies, we will salute it with a festival before tossing it in the gumbo pot.”

One of Mississippi Gulf Coast’s events celebrates Long Beach’s one-time designation as a top producer of radishes with the Long Beach Radish Festival in November. Quite often in its festivals, you will find music, mostly blues, and food. A long-time running event is Pascagoula’s Annual Gulf Coast Blues & Heritage Festival. Biloxi has the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Crawfish Festival and the Seafood Festival.

Alabama Gulf Coast is home to one of the nation’s largest outdoor event, Shrimp Festival, attracting close to 250,000 people. Around Christmastime, there is the Wharf Christmas Market and crafts and unique gifts extravaganza Merry Market.

Florida Gulf Coast has a month-long event, Destin Fishing Tournament for anglers of all ages. A big family event with lots of food, dancing and music and lots of kids’ activities is the Destin Seafood Festival. Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival and Torchlight Parade is a week-long festival with fireworks, entertainment, arts and crafts and food. At Christmas, the Annual Destin Holiday on the Harbor has scheduled boat cruises with lights in the historical Destin Harbor. You can shop at the HarborWalk’s Kris Kringle Mart.

The Gulf Coast provides many events to enjoy year round in a constant, temperate climate.  The “Third Coast” attracts water aficionados worldwide.
