Hey there's a 1940s party going on this weekend at The Luther Hotel in Palacios. All the fun begins at 7 p.m. in the hotel's USO Canteen. It's bring your own hooch (BYOH).
Women may want to come dressed in Hardy-Ames three-piece grey tweed or a bungundy nylon swing dress with peep-toe heels. Hairstyles worn included hair just below shoulder length and all hairstyles had lots of layers and worn softly around the face. Women epitomized "pin ups" like Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Ava Gardner and Veronica Lake.
Men might want to wear a sport shirt with full-out trousers and a safari jacket or a vested suit, al so known as a zoot suit, with a hand-painted tie of exotic foliage, rodeos, limousines and pin-up gals and wingtip shoes. Men's hairstyles mimicked the Cinema stars with crew cuts and slicked back hair.
Dance brush-up lessons including rumba, waltz and jitterbug, The Luther Hotel has classes on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The class lessons are included in your room reservation. Please indicate when making a reservation. For non-guests, it is just $5 for one class, $7.50 for both. Be gammin' (showing off) and a ducky skincracker (good dancer).
